Why more sales is not always growth
Many owners try to grow by adding customers, branches or products. If margins, collections or delivery are already weak, extra volume can increase pressure instead of profit.
These are general operating suggestions with illustrative situations, not customer case studies.

1. Know your margin by product or service
List your main products or services and estimate the contribution from each after direct costs. Focus growth effort on the ones that actually earn, and question the ones that only add turnover.
2. Check whether cash can support growth
Growth often needs stock, staff and credit to customers before money comes back. A simple eight-week cash forecast shows whether you can fund it or need to plan collections and financing first.
3. Make roles clear before hiring more
Write who owns sales follow-up, delivery, purchase and collections. Hiring into unclear roles usually adds cost without removing the owner bottleneck.
4. Look after repeat customers
Review which customers bought more than once in the last year and why others did not return. Keeping an existing customer satisfied is often cheaper than finding a new one.
5. Review one number every week
Pick one measure linked to your biggest problem, such as overdue invoices, rework or lead follow-ups. Review it weekly with the responsible person and agree one action.
